About Us
The African Military Studies Association (AMSA) is the intellectual home for African military scholars. It is a place where ideas, insights, and information about innovations, gains, challenges, and new directions in African military leadership, military technology, security strategies, conflict and warfare, and gender and militarism are rigorously discussed, debated, and analyzed through annual conferences, roundtable programming, workshops, and scholarly interviews. The focus of the association is multidisciplinary, and as such, its members are drawn from fields in the humanities, social sciences, and even science and technology, including archaeology, anthropology, geography, history, sociology, political science, literature, criminology, peace and conflict studies, religious studies, engineering, and artificial intelligence. Members of AMSA will range from those working on Navy, Air Force, Army studies, civil wars, world wars, the Cold War, wars of decolonization, ethnic and religious conflicts/wars, and violence, among others. The organization aims to draw on the diverse expertise and experiences of its members to understand the evolution, achievements, challenges, and emerging innovations in the field of military studies. AMSA remains the melting pot for scholars of African military studies, military officers, military consultants, and military analysts. AMSA is a coordinate organization of the African Studies Association (ASA).
